Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia release the party manifesto for the Assembly elections at a press conference in Ahmedabad
Manifesto promises to embrace common people, keep industrial bigwigs out
A day after the BJP released its manifesto in Gujarat, the Congress on Tuesday came out with its own, saying it would create an “aam Gujarat” bereft of the Tatas, Birlas and Satyams, even as Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit launched a scathing attack on the BJP.
Taking potshots at Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s style of functioning, State Congress president Arjun Modhwadia said his party would open the doors of the State Secretariat to the common man and not just big industrialists.
Mr. Modhwadia released the party’s manifesto, which contains a slew of promises, including subsidised diesel, pipeline gas, irrigation, filling of vacant government posts, irrigation, low-cost treatment for kidney and cancer patients in government hospitals, solar streetlights, 50-per cent reservation for women in local body elections, reservation for poor students in private schools, free tablets and laptops for students as well and the implementation of the Sachar Committee’s recommendations.
With Saurashtra being targeted by all parties, the Congress too promised special sops for the drought-hit farmers of the region.
