Indian security agencies have arrested as many as 71 spies in the last four years. “Out of the 71 agents, five were neutralised in Bihar,” said Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh.
Written reply in Lok Sabha
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Singh said 26 agents were arrested in 2009, while 18 were held in 2010, 14 in 2011 and 13 till November 21 this year.
The Minister also noted that three of those arrested were found to have been involved in criminal activities in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi.
Replying to another question, Mr. Singh said Pakistan was supporting terrorist groups such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the Indian Mujahideen (IM) and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) who were carrying out terror activities in various parts of India.
“As per available information, militants/terrorists active in India are often supported by their parent outfits based abroad, particularly in Pakistan,” Mr. Singh said.
He added that various terrorists groups such as the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, LeT, JeM, Al-Umma, Al Badr, Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Babbar Khalsa International, Khalistan Zindabad Force and Khalistan Tiger Force were active in the country
On the arrests of 18 alleged terrorists from Bangalore and other places in Karnataka, the Minister said: “The group was planning to target political leaders and journalists. They were also planning to commit robberies in Hubli to raise funds for carrying out terrorist activities.”
