New Delhi: Government is all set to launch the Aadhar based direct cash transfer scheme for beneficiaries of subsidised items that will be rolled out from January 01 next year.
The Aadhar based direct subsidy transfer roll-out will be completed throughout India by the end of 2013, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Saturday.
"We want the roll out (of Aadhaar-based subsidy transfer) to be completed by the end of 2013," he said at the Bancon conference.
The direct cash transfer of subsidy, pension to people is expected to cover 51 districts in 15 states, the Finance Minister said.
"We are going to launch the ambitious programme of payout of direct cash subsidy to people through the Aadhaar system in 51 districts across 15 states", he said.
The Finance Minister noted that the government spends "thousands and thousands of crores of rupees" on pension and various subsidies.
Chidambaram said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will take a meeting of the cash transfer committee on Monday in the run up to the implementation of the scheme from the beginning of next year.
UIDAI will set up a dedicated cell of technical experts in UIDAI to facilitate Aadhaar enabled Direct Cash Transfers and help individual ministries.
Departments will work towards digitising their databases quickly, particularly at the state level, with the help of state governments, Department of IT and NIC to ensure convergence.
The per family-per year cash transfer amount will be Rs 32,000 in the bank accounts of 10 crore poor families, however Aadhar's coverage has so far been much less even after three years since its launch. Figures indicate that 250 million people have been enrolled so far.
